Artist Talk by Viv Corringham on her Shadow-walks
The NAISA Space, 601 Christie St #252

James Joyce wrote that places remember events, and Sound Travels resident artist Viv Corringham found that idea very interesting - that everything that happens leaves traces that people might be able to sense. During this artist talk Viv Corringham will explain her concept of the Shadow-walk, which is the basis for the installation she will make for Sound Travels in August.

The process of a Shadow-walk is reasonably straightforward. Corringham requests to be taken on a special walk with an individual, a walk that has been repeated many times and has distinct meaning or significance for that person. An initial walk with the person along their selected route, in which environmental sounds and conversations are recorded, is followed by Corringham's solo walk in which she attempts to sense her previous companion's tracks on the walk and to make audible their memories and feelings through improvised singing in the location. Recordings are later combined and edited to become the final work, the Shadow-walk.

Those interested in participating in a shadow-walk are especially invited to attend this artist talk by Viv Corringham and are requested to contact NAISA at naisa@naisa.ca to book an appointment with the artist.
