Sound Travels
Sound Travels brings sound art to the outdoors on Toronto Island in a way that entices the curious and provides a unique experience each and every year. This year's festival includes sound sculptures, sound installations, outdoor and indoor concerts, site-specific performances, soundwalks, artist talks and workshops.
Important Ferry Information
Due to Wakefeast activities on Centre Island August 11, 12, and 13th,
it is highly recommended that those planning to attend any of the
Sound Travels performances and concerts should take
the Ward's Island ferry each of these days.

Ward's ferry schedule for August 11-13th Sound Travels performances:

For the Friday shows you should catch the 6:15pm ferry
(if you miss it, you'll have to catch the 7pm which means you'll make it
for the concert but not the Guerilla Sound Events).
For the Saturday afternoon shows you should catch the 1pm ferry
and for the evening shows the 6pm ferry
For the Sunday afternoon shows you should catch the 1pm ferry.


An expanded version of the eighth annual Sound Travels event will tie together three different streams of activity.

soundaXisThe first is the participation of New Adventures in Sound Art in the soundaXis festival of music, architecture and acoustics with a co-presented concert at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) auditorium with Contact Contemporary Music that will unveil a new 12 channel spatialization system for New Adventures in Sound Art events.

signwavesThe second is the commissioning of two outdoor site specific sound sculptures for Toronto Island by Barry Prophet and by the team of Kristi Allik and Robert Mulder for the Sign Waves installation series which will also include its annual installment of indoor works at the beautiful St. Andrew-by-the-Lake church .

Finally, the apex of the summer will be weekend-long activities in August that include guerilla sound art performances by Peter Hatch and outdoor concerts using the expanded spatialization system unveiled at soundaXis.
