Videomusique is a recent development in Québec where electroacoustic sound artists have expanded their palette to include abstract non-narrative digital video in their expression. This program gives a sampling of recent work in this provocative new genre.

TREELOGY
Nicolas Bernier Nicolas Bernier and Delphine Measroch

Treelogy is a series of three eulogy-movies around discreet movements and growing things. The project, in the first place, was meant to be purely aesthetic, witnessing our fascination for the open landscapes. It is a tribute to the "micro but not quite invisible" movements which appear when we stop to catch them.

Nicolas Bernier has been initiated to musical creation through popular music. Since then, his eagerness for breaking new grounds Delphine Measrochled him to acousmatic composition, live electronic music, installations and video. Having always been fascinated by graphic design, he strives to create in his music videos a universe encompassing both art and design.

Delphine Measroch Having received an Electroacoustic Composition BA from the University of Montreal, Delphine Measroch is particularly interested in the fusion between music and other art forms. Active musician, Delphine Measroch is also a pianist and accordionist and, besides her own
acousmatic works, has worked with Nicolas Bernier since 2004 to make music and video creations.

We decided to work together and were inspired by everyday audio and visual experiences very close to us. This is why the images shadow the sound, and the sound shadows the shadows.—IW

Videomusic

I looked at the earth from very close, in the humid darkness of pebbles and twigs. A silent ray of light turned from a virgin sky as I headed for the water. Sounds of war and hurricanes thundered across the horizon. I walked on the wet strand for a while, paused and settled for the night.

The sixtieth day of a contractual confinement. Two men and a woman under continuous observation. The characters, like the images, are engulfed in a dazzling light, lose their contour and reveal their vulnerability and turpitude.
