1) 2010 Calls For Submissions on the theme ABOUT TIME
Categories:  Radio Art, Electroacoustic Music/Sound Art, Videomusic and Installation Art
    September 30, 2010 Deadline

    http://naisa.ca/opportunities.html#2010

2011 marks the 10th anniversary of NAISA’s Deep Wireless and SOUNDplay festivals and so it is an opportunity for NAISA to both reflect on the past and look ahead to the future.  With this in mind, New Adventures in Sound Art invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme ABOUT TIME for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2011 programming for its annual Deep Wireless, Sound Travels, and SOUNDplay festivals presented in Toronto, Canada. Artists may submit works in one or all of the following four categories (Note: please send separate submissions for each entry). Individual interpretations or variations on the theme ABOUT TIME are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component.

2) NAISA June/July Workshops

All workshops are @ the NAISA space, 601 Christie St #252
Pre-registration required - go to www.naisa.ca and click registration, then choose workshops

SOUND AS ART 1 Recording & Editing workshop by Darren Copeland
June 19, 10 am - 5 pm, $100

Geared towards the budding sound artist, the visual and media artist exploring sound, the community radio programmer wanting to expand their possibilities, and those with a general interest in sound, this workshop will teach basic recording, editing, processing and mixing practices.

NAISAtron building Workshop with Hector Centeno
July 5, 10 am - 3 pm, $75 (price includes NAISAtron kit)

The NAISAtron, created for NAISA by Rob Cruickshank, is a small sound sculpture, an electronic gizmo and perfect for the DIY artist who likes to create sound electronically. This workshop is an opportunity to make your own NAISAtron to take home with you. If you haven't soldered, no worries, we'll teach you.

Micro-Radio Transmitter building Workshop with Hector Centeno
July 6, 10 am - 1 pm, $55 (price includes parts for building micro-transmitter)

This workshop will let you experience what radio transmission is like on a minimum level that could also be developed into radio art and micro radio. The transmitter that the participant will make has only a very small radius of transmission, but participants could experience a convivial wireless imagination.

3) NAISA Youth Initiative Updates

The NAISA youth education initiative, now in its third year, facilitates the creation of art entirely through sound, radio, electronics and/or performance through exploration and collaboration and is targeted toward youth at high schools, arts centers and community centers. If you are a teacher or run a community centre and are interested in the workshops, please contact naisa@naisa.ca .

MAKING ART WITH SOUND
August 16-20, $50
The NAISA Space, 601 Christie St #252

All equipment will be provided by New Adventures in Sound Art and no experience is necessary. Please contact Kristie at outreach@naisa.ca . Limited spots available.
