How to build a small AMP circuit workshop by Reena Katz
This is a hands-on workshop that will teach you how to build a small amp circuit that Katz has used in many of her projects. These small sonic amplifiers can be put in tissue boxes or other small enclosures.

SOUND AS ART 1 Recording & Editing workshop by Darren Copeland
Geared towards the budding sound artist, the visual and media artist exploring sound, the community radio programmer wanting to expand their possibilities, and those with a general interest in sound, this workshop will teach basic recording, editing, processing and mixing practices.

MAKING ART WITH SOUND Week 1 (August 10-14) & Week 2 (August 17-21)
NAISA is inviting youth aged 15-18 to create art entirely with Sound, Radio, Electronics, and/or Performance through exploration according to their own individual interest - through building a NAISAtron, a micro-transmitter, or working with basic recording and editing software. All equipment will be provided by New Adventures in Sound Art and no experience is necessary. Please contact Nadene at naisa@naisa.ca

Sound Travels continues to immerse its audience in the world of sound in a way that entices the curious and provides a unique experience each and every year. This year's festival includes outdoor interactive sound sculptures and site-specific performances on Toronto Island, indoor sound installations and concerts at the Artscape Wychwood Barns as well as soundwalks, artist talks, a series of workshops (Sound Travels Intensive) and the 3rd annual Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium.

Sound Travels Performances
August 7,8,9, various venues
An international mix of acousmatic and mixed electroacoustic works responding to the theme Ecology: water, air, sound are brought together for presentation using the NAISA spatialization system. Featured is the world premiere of a commissioned work by Nicolas Bernier along with Les Arbes and retrospectives of Benjamin Thigpen and Annette Vande Gorne. Also featured is a performance by Ken Gregory in which he will coax music out of kites with his site-specific performance work Against the Wind.
Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium Aug 7-8 @ the Loop Studio, 601 Christie #170
The Canadian Electroacoustic Community and New Adventures in Sound Art are pleased to announce the 2009 Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium. The symposium presents a selection of refereed papers and presentations as well as a keynote lecture by internationally acclaimed scholar Annette Vande Gorne. The proceedings of the symposium will be published in a forthcoming issue of the CEC's online journal, eContact!.

SOUNDplay is a meeting point for experimentation in new media and sound art pushing the boundaries and encouraging new fusions of image, sound and text. This 8th edition of the annual festival will feature performances, installations, artist talks and workshops. Artists (with funding to be confirmed) include Jane Tingley, Nancy Tobin, the collaborative duo of Pierre Hébert with Stefan Smulovitz and many more TBA.
