SOUND AS ART 1 Recording & Editing workshop with Darren Copeland
Geared towards the budding sound artist, the visual and media artist exploring sound, the community radio programmer wanting to expand their possibilities, and those with a general interest in sound, this workshop will teach basic recording, editing, processing and mixing practices.
May 9th 1-3, $15/10
PERFORMANCES with ELECTROACOUSTIC CLOTHES with Benoît Maubrey
Benoît Maubrey, director of Die Audio Gruppe, will give a video presentation, provide a hands-on session and be on-hand for a question & answer period.

The seventh annual Radio Without Boundaries conference makes Deep Wireless an internationally sought after destination for those with a general interest in radio and transmission art, sound and radio artists and/or those who just want something more from radio. Exploring the many potentials, boundaries and artist perspectives of radio and transmission art, the 2009 all-star line-up of international radio art luminaries includes Brandon LaBelle (USA/Germany), Gregory Whitehead (USA), Hank Bull (Can), Chris Brookes (Can), Andrea Dancer (Can), Emmanual Madan (Can), Anna Friz (Can), Neil Sandell (Can), Kristen Roos (Can), Andra McCartney (Can), Paolo Pietropaolo (Can), Hélène Prévost (Can), Paul Ingles (US) and Alessandro Bosetti (Italy) plus many more.
NAISA is participating in Theatre Direct's 2009 school residency Round Trip Home
in which youth make radio over an 11 week period. We gratefully acknowledge the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario, the Laidlaw Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council and the SOCAN foundation for their financial support of the NAISA youth initiative.Upcoming collaborations include participation with the Royal Conservatory Community Outreach's Unsigned Hype
programme in May.
The NAISA youth initiative is targeted toward youth at high schools, arts centers and community centers. If you are a teacher or run a community centre and are interested in being a part of this youth initiative, email naisa@naisa.ca.

This 11th edition of the Sound Travels will once again feature an expanded set of indoor and outdoor performances, installations, SOUNDwalks, artist talks and workshops. Featured artists include Nicolas Bernier, Annette Vande Gorne, Ken Gregory, Ken Emig and Ben Thigpen and Barry Prophet + more.
September 26 to October 31, 2009
SOUNDplay is a meeting point for experimentation in new media and sound art pushing the boundaries and encouraging new fusions of image, sound and text. This 8th edition of the annual festival will feature performances, installations, artist talks and workshops. Artists (with funding to be confirmed) include Jane Tingley, Nancy Tobin, the collaborative duo of Pierre Hébert with Stefan Smulovitz and many more TBA.
